We are not spammers and we will never sell your information to any third party ever. All information that we obtain from you through the use of our service is used in order to provide basic functionality or enhance your experience of our product.
When you sign in, we ask for you to sign-in through Facebook or directly using your email address. Through either method we collect your email address in order to create an account with a unique identifier that is easy for you to remember and which makes it easy for friends to connect to you. We also use this email to occasionally send you useful email messages such as a welcome email when you start playing that let's you know how to opt out of receiving any more email communication from us.
If you sign-up directly, we ask you to provide a username which we store with your account. This username is used to refer to you to your friends when you are playing a game. You can change this username at any time in the Account page which is located under Settings. Note that doing so can make it more difficult for your partners to find you.
If you sign-up directly, you are asked to provide a password so that your account is protected from other people attempting to act as you within our application. We never store your password in plain-text, we only store a one-way hash of your password, for your protection.
If you sign-in through Facebook, we store your unique Facebook ID to associate it with your account. It is then used to connect you when your Facebook friends attempt to start a new game with you.
If you sign-in through Facebook, we store your first and last name to associate it with your account. Your first name and last initial can be used to refer to you to your friends when you are playing a game in lieu of a username.
If you sign-in through Facebook or provide a photo in the Account screen, we store the image with your account and will display it to any partners you start a game with.
If you attempt to start a new multi-player game with one of your contacts, we only send one-way hashes of your contact email addresses to our servers in order to highlight which of your friends already has Crossword Connect installed. This means that we do not see your friend's email addresses and therefore we cannot and would not use those email addresses to contact your friends without your knowledge or consent. We do not store this information or use it in any other way.
If you choose to start a game with one of your friends who is not yet registered with Crossword Connect, we will send them an email invitation to download the game in order to play with you and their email address is associated with the game so that you will be properly partnered up with them when they join. We do not use your friend's email address in any other way.
